Man, when I was like 16 I got so sick of being made fun of for being the fat kid that I took an axe down inna woods, chopped down a tree, and started doing log-lifts all the time. I got strong as fuck, but I didn’t lose no weight. I actually got bigger.
Same thing happened when I got into fighting. I got even stronger, and I got *fast*, man, and nimble, like a cat. Still chubby.
Body-building culture is a bunch of crap, my dude. Functional muscle is not necessarily toned or lean. You can be swole as hell and still be heavy. And that’s cool.

You know, I train with (martial arts) a bunch of dudes, and a few bodybuilders have showed up over the years.
And every damn one of those huge shredded motherfuckers has the endurance of a fucking newborn puppy. Fifteen minutes into warmups and they’re panting for air like like they’re about to die. I’ve sparred them and every one of them telegraphs their moves about two weeks in advance, and are slower than my dead grandpa because their huge useless muscles get in the damn way.
Now. I also work with a couple of guys who are not weightlifters. They do, however, do very physical jobs and are Big Dudes. Picture this sort of build.
No abs to speak of, a bit of a tummy, and those motherfuckers can pick up one of the weightlifters and throw them.
And they’re fast. Like, unfair fast.
Bodybuilding culture is bullshit. Embrace your status as a giant barbarian and if anyone gives you crap throw them off a mountain.

there’s like zero consideration for what the scale or context is or if the discomfort is based on anything objectively harmful it’s just one person saying “i’m uncomfortable” with whatever motivations they might have and suddenly it’s causing grave harm to an entire group of marginalized people and anyone who doesn’t agree is a bad malicious person
this is how we get people banning depictions of pre op/non op trans people from trans zines bc one person is Uncomfortable with it and then it gets phrased as like. we are banning anything but the most perfect of cis passing trans people as a way of Combating harmful trans fetishizing and we are eternally grateful to this one guy who was uncomfortable with anything else. this is a real example btw

“this makes me uncomfortable” and “this is bad” are two ENTIRELY SEPARATE STATEMENTS and it is honestly STUNNING how many people conflate the two.

SO. The scene. You know, the one with the tension. The one that single-handedly gave me heart palpitations? That one.
When last we saw our intrepid psychos, Daemon had just run away with his tail firmly between his legs because he couldn’t keep control of his niece, who he promptly abandoned in a brothel because of it. As one does.
But now, he takes her hand, he pulls her through the crowd, he circles around her, and then he…cedes all control to her.
The very first thing he says to her is: “Is this what you want?”
He points out that Laenor is not the one for her without ever daring to try to tell her who would be a better fit.
“Marriage is only a political arrangement, I hear.”
“Mine was recently dissolved.”
Yes, he tries to be cute in that moment because he wouldn’t be Daemon if he didn’t try to get some measure of control, but he doesn’t push her. Everything he does in this scene is to get her to chose him, to say that he is what she wants.
He wants her to chose him because he has chosen her.
Like it or not, he had his moment in the brothel with Rhaenyra, promptly decided to ask her father for her hand, was reminded he already has a wife, fucked off the Vale, murdered Rhea, and rolled back up to the palace and placed himself directly in front of Rhaenyra.
And then she tells him yes. Yeah, she’s still pissed at him, but she tells him, yes, take me as your wife.
And I absolutely believe he would have done it. He would have fought every Kingsguard, every Lord, even his own Gold Cloaks, to get her out of that castle and to Dragonstone to make her his wife because she chose him and that was all that mattered.
And then fuCKING CRISTON COLE, INSEL OF THE FUCKING YEAR, WHO COULDN’T CONCEIVE OF THE IDEA THAT SOMEONE MIGHT WANT A CROWN MORE THAN HIS DICK HAD TO GO AND FUCK IT UP FOR ALL OF US.
